Use of private cars

In ELT we wrote an essay based on an exercise point of the book, in which we had to find ways for reducing the use of private cars. Here it's my work:

Nowadays, going to the city centre can be stressful. Traffic jams are an everyday thing, making moving through the city a chaos or almost impossible. To reduce this, government should find a way to promote the use of other means of transport.

A way to achieve this is by investing on public transport services. People could use other alternative if they find it easier to move around the city. Therefore, bike ways should be created to make bike riding accessible around the centre and free bikes should be offered in various spots throughout thr city, moreover, bus lines can be implemented so that traffic flows better.

Another way can be focusing on people directly. Educating and explaining that the environmental issues that massive car use can cause, such as smog, air pollution, will end up in a few years, affecting people's lives severely. What's more, government should try to persuade people by talking about health issues. The stress and physical/mental exhaustion they can experience, influencing their humor, personality and even causing more severe health problems. Encouraging the use of bikes, telling people about it's advantages, for instance, that it is a great way to exercise everyday, especially could help those who, due to work, don't have time to go to the gym.

From my point of view, both methods are equally important, the government should make an attempt to influence people not only by offering a better transportation system but by changing society's bad habits.
